I used to work in hospital finances. We calculated the sick leave for each department as a % of total hours worked: All depts: 2.6% Nursing 3% Admin: 2.5% Allied: 2.3% Environmental services: 2.0% Senior medical: 1.0% Junior medical: 0.4%https://twitter.com/choo_ek/status/1007677986990985216 …

What’s the point? I’m 56yo hosp specialist, I phoned in sick once & went home sick once in my career. So what? I don’t get sick often?? Don’t recall being at work sick & thinking I shouldn’t be there more than a handful of times. How does that apply to others - Pointless thread?

Well, the thread was mostly just about how the figures add up for different jobs. But, as an example, I know several surgery residents who have fainted at work multiple times and gone back to the job each time. If that happened to me, my boss would send me home

The main point is that the culture of leave within medicine, particularly for junior doctors, is fairly toxic. If you need to take sick leave, it should be fine for you to take it!
