"Ancient" & "Eastern"? A common argument put forward by fans of alternative medicine: it's unfair to use standards "Western" science. This is wrong on many levels, but also b/c most CAMs ARE relatively recent &/or "Western". @picardonhealth @AlanLevinovitz @DrJenGunter @McGillOSS pic.twitter.com/ucHrVDsyJW

Lots of frustration in health care. As a patient with chronic disease, what's probably even more frustrating is the amount of time spent taking sides and debating. Health care needs help, not debates.https://twitter.com/kenjaques/status/1004006734833311746?s=19 …

1/n Dear doctors (and scientists), (Especially those bent on opposing most aspects of Conventional or Integrative Medicine.) Health care is in crisis. Half the adult population is diagnosed with chronic disease. Health care systems are becoming, or already are, unsustainable.

That just seems like a poor excuse for a bad argument. Most of the people on this thread are involved with "helping" health care in one way or another, doesn't stop us from criticizing nonsense

Balanced diet, exercise, rest and stress management are promoted by every practitioner of conventional medicine I’ve ever met. These are not “alternative medicine”. Jade balls in the vagina, magical cures for cancer, nosodes to replace vaccines on the other hand...

Latter are nonsense that should be called out. "Alternative Medicine" label is divisive by definition. Most practitioners promote balanced diet, exercise, rest and stress management. The differences are in the "treatments" approaches. Virtually all have benefits in some cases.

That's simply not true. Many homeopaths, for example, will cheerfully prescribe completely evidenceless treatments instead of proven treatments, because they are both uneducated medically and believe in a system that is demonstrably untrue

You picked one example to describe several fields. Educated medically, many conventional doctors will prescribe "evidence based 'proven' treatments" in the form of Rx when the best (safest) approach would be lifestyle modifications. They're doing their best when they do this.
