Whenever you talk about vaping, you see people quoting a figure: 95%. According to SCIENCE, vaping is 95% better for you than smoking Here's a brief tweetorial on why that's wrongpic.twitter.com/j1RJPDLEZD

Are you happier with this from RCP? https://www.rcplondon.ac.uk/news/promote-e-cigarettes-widely-substitute-smoking-says-new-rcp-report … Very difficult to convey this into meaningful words Remember both PHE +RCP examined many reports(100's) not just Nuttpic.twitter.com/RbfwxJ7dyj

Or this via @carlvphillips .....multiple threads existed. But this attempts to verbalise an estimated value But remember both PHE and RCP were attempting to convey a message to the general public, the 95% or 5% figs were best estimates. 'We estimate close to harmless' ?pic.twitter.com/EDP3yNT52H

I have to say, I find your comments to be some of the most informed I read. Yes, those are much less misleading, although I still think the veracity of the 95% figure is problematic

It is problematic. Sheer fantasy actually. But not because of some silly pyramid created to explain science to children (or medics in this case). Expert opinion is the ONLY source of knowledge. The problem is the the source is INEXPERT knowledge.

Yes, I am being rather hard on you. But I have no patience for this (strangely common) pattern of those who self-style as "debunkers", but then just replace grade-school-level simplistic errors with middle-school-level ones. Don't rely on your epi classes to understand science.

I don't? As far as I can tell your major objections appear to be glib comments and snide insults, it just seems a waste responding

After repeating the same lessons for so long, it becomes hard not to be snarky about it. Your basic sketch was solid. But a lot of the details were wrong, as others have pointed out. That faux hierarchy of epistemology, though, that is the real credibility killer.

Whereas expert opinion, long proven to be infallible, is 100% correct and unquestionable Which is why, I assume you follow the exact words of Emeritus Professor Simon Chapman, noted public health expert with decades of experience when it comes to vaping

Apologies, should've been a comma between "experience" and "vaping". Technically, no one has decades of experience when it comes to vaping Also, absolutely. As a public health expert, he is pretty impressive

You are really not making a very good case for yourself. There are no such decades. Chapman is not an expert on, well, anything. That is the point. You have to get out of the Dunning-Kruger hole to even know who the experts are. Only then can you sort out the claims.

You should definitely tell that to the University of Sydney it sounds like they've made a huge mistake! Or, perhaps, your opinion is INEXPERT and therefore can be ignored with ease 😉pic.twitter.com/ZuhbOThgki
