To be fair sensitivity, specificity, PPV etc and dependence on prevalence can be hard for ppl to get their heads around - plus the economic angle which is the bottom line.

Definitely. But this is why you need to look at interventions (like drug sniffer dogs) from many angles, not just "well we're preventing some amount of crime so that's good"
