Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia has the perfect title. The protagonist owns every scene she’s in - I almost wished she’d spend more time outside of the creepy (I think one review said Lovecraftian) house and explore more of 1950s Mexico. I’ll read more from this author.

Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy is a cold, sad, and hauntingly beautiful story of the sea, of loss (of people, of species), and of birds. I had strong vibes of Moby Dick and Polar Star - ship’s crews make great characters. Do not read if you want to be cheered up or warmed up.

This year I decided to only read novels written by women. Here are a couple I finished recently that I would recommend. Caveats: 1. I care about beautiful words more than plot twists, almost more than character. 2. I also don’t read much fantasy or scifi (often because of 1).

There was no internet, so we had no idea that he was a) British and b) dead for like 100 years. Anyway we got in trouble for making a long-distance phone call to NYC because long-distance was also a thing back then.

We concluded that Darwin must work for the American Museum of Natural History, because everyone important lived in NYC. (I lived in small town yeeha Texas).

All this dinosaur talk reminds me when I was a kid and we had an argument over whether brachiosaurus or diplodocus was the larger dino (there was no internet then - don't @ me). We decided we needed to call Charles Darwin because he seemed like a smart scientist.

Also we are currently hiring for LA-based Rioters for this project, but we plan to expand outside of the USA as well.

Early on there is definitely a need for industry veterans with MMO experience, but we will consider folks with no industry experience down the road.
