New Year’s resolutions for a world choking on outrage: I will give less offense (i.e., be more polite) I will take less offense (i.e., give others the benefit of the doubt) I will pass on less offense (i.e., not be the sort of retweeter Russian trolls want me to be)

"When Bloomberg asked dozens of business leaders to name the best book they read this year, The Coddling of the American Mind... received the most votes." It's a must-read for employers, parents, and all concerned with future trends

Jaw-dropping evidence that Americans are being kept in the dark about the personal data companies are collecting, what’s being done with it, and how much that data is worth. Consumers are paying with their data, but have no way to find out if they're getting a fair deal.

The world suffers a million emergencies every minute. Modern tech allows them to compete for your attention. Indulging in constant disaster voyeurism will leave you feeling like a prey animal even if your immediate environment is safe and comfortable. Don't derange yourself.

Inequality is rising everywhere, right? Wrong. Overall, it's rising in more equal countries, falling in more unequal ones. (Though read the footnotes: as I discovered writing on the topic, there are many ways of estimating inequality, & no "correct" figures.)

I have heard no Saudi official publicly or privately characterize Jamal Khashoggi as an “enemy of the state” or a member of the Muslim Brotherhood since his killing. So why is describing him that way?

The world is a dangerous place when its led by demagoguery leaders who manipulate truth. They lie, they know they are lying, & they know that we know they are lying. RIP My dear friend , I hope your death show everyone their true-selves and what they stand for.

The rising wave of populism is a fast-growing social cancer. Checks and balances are urgently needed to penalize the manipulation of people’s emotions using false fear and hope signals to distort their perception of reality and influence their voting decisions. Social Media?
