When I worked on SNES I was working for BITS and we had our own in-house reverse engineered DEV kit (also sold to some other devs). Basically a load of wires plugged into the cartridge slot and some PCBs

Hi Steve, Wow! That’s really intriguing. That would be amazing to see some shots of that hardware. Did you ever dive into developing games...for other Nintendo consoles? Very cool to hear about your work on SNES.

Soo... this looks like a cross of computer and a SNES so you can put the game in RAM and playtest?
-
Not sure...
@Jackhead_ASG probably knows more about this hardware than most. Chris...anything to add? - Još 3 druga odgovora

The company “Intelligent Systems” were frequently hired by
#Nintendo to manufacture game development kits for their consoles. They released different dev kits for#SNES development.@Jackhead_ASG describes the differences at the link below: https://www.obscuregamers.com/threads/sfc-snes-development-manual-and-software-source.907/ …#RetroGamingpic.twitter.com/wl2W6UrFcw

Interesting to see this was made in the USA.

True enough...
Makes you wonder if there were ever units manufactured in Japan?

Is it a dev kit? Its made by Nintendo in the 90's
-
Yep! It is. Apparently this
#SNESdev kit provides features of: source code Debugger, sound editing and also character graphics development. The “Intelligent Systems” version had completely separate dev kits for each feature. This unit is a three-in-one unit. Pretty cool.
