Tech engineering cultures: FB, Google, Amazon, Monzo, Airbnb, Uber, Microsoft, N26 etc. Not tech cultures: where people are unhappy b/c of the eng culture. http://Booking.com , most banks (Lloyds, RBS), many "command & control" startups (Revolut, Bunq), many consultancies.

I don’t know how to call it, but in my opinion it is essential that you can go to almost anyone in the company and openly talk about your ideas, problems and solutions to them. There is no person that is “too-scary-to-talk-with-because-he-or-she-is-too-important”.

Yes! Great point. Some call it open door policy. I don’t like that term, but I am totally with you on the underlying meaning.

In autonomy, I would add something regarding the need for the company to have clear high-level goals. As in, it’s great to give Eng & Prod ownership and autonomy. But the magic happens, imho, when that’s combined with clear high-level direction
