I was trying to make a knot by bending and twisting a strip. But now I understand instead of twisting, you can just fold along lines that are not orthogonal to the strip. It is quite difficult to guess how to fold. To be continued.

I should mention that I got the nicer representation from here:

I was designing a knot in the shape of a strip, which is bent in the direction of the acceleration of the knot-curve. I didn't like the result the Wikipedia parametrisation gave, but I found a nicer one. Maybe I should edit the Wikipedia page.

Variation on my previous tweet, now use pentagons instead of pentagrams.

Another phone LED 3D print experiment. Looks a bit like the Michelangelo painting...

The {7,3,3} honey combe 3D print designed by gives quite a nice light if you put a bright LED undeneath it. In this case a phone.

The Twin paradox can be understood in terms of space-time triangles. Angles (rapidities) and lengths are Lorentz invariant. Going from 1 vertex to another via 2 time-like edges is always more time than via 1 time-like edge. More info:

You can generalize the idea of a circumcircle of a triangle to an “eigen-hyperbola” of a triangle in space-time. The triangle remains on this hyperbola as it is Lorentz transformed. I made a web-site on space-time triangles:

I got myself a 3D printer. I'll be back with some math art soon, but first a chrismas tree.

I corected some Javascript errors with the tones, and added some links.

I went to a talk yesterday by Albert van der Schoot. I just had to make an interactive webpage on the 'tone clock' he mentioned:

After seeing the Ron Resch film, I just had to make this animation. It generalises the 2D hinged tesselation to 3D.

Amazing video. Many of the things that seem new discoveries now, were in fact already done by Ron Rescch in the 1960's. But also fascinating stuff I never seen before at all.

By the way, a triple C=_C bond plus a single C-C has a slightly lower enthalpy than 2 double C=C bonds. I guess thats why the 1D chains of C atoms are alternatinly 3-fold and 1-fold.

This year, molecular scientists constructed a ring of 18 C atoms, alternating 3/1 bonds. Here is the next challenge: The first to make *octahedrene* gets a beer from me.

If you build a network of resistors, with negative resistors in 1 direction (the 'time' direction) you get a model of the wave equation. I am especially pleased, and also a bit confused, that there is a hamiltonian that is conserved in the time direction.

I turned a recent tiling by into a sliding animation. It goes from a tiling of equilateral triangles to a tiling of squares by sliding motion.
