Trump defended his response to the violence in Charlottesville in 2017 when he said there were “very fine people on both sides.” He said the was talking about people who “felt very strongly about the monument to Robert E. Lee. A great general, whether you like it or not.”pic.twitter.com/fulPWpY4zC

Lee was a great taction against all except attrition. Lee made one blunder... Gettysburg. Him being a traitor and racist doesn't change his military prowess. With less men and equipment he carried the first 2 1/2 years of the war. Lincoln did asked him to lead the Union army.
-
He also stayed in Richmond way too long, and did not realize how stupid that was until Grant took Petersburg. Then he tried to run, but was quickly. Strategically, at that point Richmond was irrelevant. Lee's army was all that mattered. And he fucked it up.

In the end Lee was a traitor to the United States of America and shouldn't be celebrated matter how great of a tactican he was

When Lee signed the surrender, his troops were starving. Grant did not try to humiliate him and he also ordered rations sent to Lee’s men. Grant was the great general, not Lee.

Well Lee was a racist + he didn't exactly care about his units' losses. But the win in the Second Battle of Manassass was the result of an offensive campaign that had brought Lee to a position ~20 miles away from Washington. And that was before his loss in the Maryland campaign.
-
Neither did Grant... see Cold Harbor. It was a war of attrition. Both sides cared little for losses. Antieum, Fredericksburg, the Wilderness, Shiloh... All blood baths.
-
Yes, but unlike the Union, the Conf. couldn't afford high losses. My point was that Lee actually did pull off one or another successful off. op.

I wonder what a Grants’ slaves would think of your comments, since Lee was anti- slavery. As far skill, even Mary Todd Lincoln said “Grant is just a butcher”. He simply pressed Lee because he not out maneuver Lee, but he could out last. north out numbered the south almost 4 to 1.
