*Yes I know. Just ignore it yeah? I made it in 5 minutes and I was excited - I proofread as well as I was ever going to in that situation.

Christ the embarrassment I'm feeling over posting this because it actually looks like I've put some effort in rather than just adhd shitposting.

image description: a graphic featuring white text on a muted dark green background. the text illustrates the way an ADHD person naturally writes and communicates.

text transcription:
ADHD people write differently. It’s amazing. Frenetic.
See, when we communicate, there’s not really a barrier between how we’d
write something down - or how we’d talk naturally.
We use punctuation wildly. Putting full stops in places where commas should
be.
Commas, are everywhere, they shouldn’t be, and good luck to you if we get
so excited about something that we really need to tell you everything about
it immediately because at that point really there are no rules..
But… That means when you read us you hear us.
Not our exact voice, not exactly.
Not unless you know us.
But how we ebb, and flow. The rhythm of it.
As a writer (and an editor), the saddest thing about my life is that my first
job, after finishing a piece, is to silence myself.
But it’s fun getting there.
image description: a graphic featuring muted dark green text on a muted white background. the text illustrates the way an ADHD person is forced to edit themselves for neurotypical consumption.

text transcription:
ADHD people write in much the same way as they would speak.
This leads to odd punctuation usage but enables the reader to
better understand the author’s voice.
While this process is enjoyable, in a professional environment,
these mistakes must be corrected.
This can be upsetting to the author.

So this is my least favourite kind of response to this. I understand not every person with ADHD (or even anything else) will have the same traits. So if you don't vibe with it that's cool. Not saying 'some' is not the same as saying ' all'. But this super feels like gatekeeping. https://twitter.com/Ana__George/status/1384280808693768192 …

This is interesting. I've noticed this in myself but struggled to put it into words, or get the reasoning behind it. When I chat with people through IM it tends to be lots of short single lines, and when doing essays in school I struggled to bulk stuff out as a result.

Good lord, that first one is like reading my own writing! Mind you, the words flowed into my brain much better than the edited one. People have told me they like how I write my blogs posts because they can understand what I say. So perhaps there's a lesson to be learnt here... 😂

Yeah, I was thinking the same. The first piece is so conversational in style, while the second reads like a summary or report. 😆
