      The evening before, the city of #Charlottesville attempted to move the rally from Lee Park, to a bigger park farther outside of town. Jason Kessler sued on #1stamendment grounds and a Judge ruled in his favor. The rally was allowed to proceed. - Mary B. McCord @profsandpints

          In the course of the Spring leading up to case arguments, various defendants entered agreements to not return to #Charlottesville. In the end there were only 2 defendants left: Jason Kessler and Redneck Revolt.

          The judge ultimately decided in favor of the plaintiffs (@GeorgetownICAP, @CvilleCityHall) ruling that there was no infringement on #FirstAmendment rights, and that the city has a right to use laws to protect itself. - @GeorgetownICAP's Mary McCord @profsandpints

          The ruling: States can impose restrictions on public events, as long as they follow 3 guidelines: 1) content neutral. 2) Narrowly tailored to serve an important governmental interest (ie: public safety) 3) They must allow speech the opportunity to be seen and heard @profsandpints
