I can hear our mothers saying, “Just because the Stromatolites are causing a mass extinction and fundamentally transforming Earth materials and climate (the geologic version of jumping off a cliff), doesn’t mean you have to!”

Wolframite, a tungsten ore, is the mass in our phones that makes them vibrate. It's formed under high-temperature hydrothermal veins which can found in alluvial and eluvial deposits.

Anyone know why Sapphires would be a good source of glass?

It looks like sapphires (or synthetic ones at least) won't be the future of iPhone screens. The SEC is charging the troubled company making them with fraud. Plus, apparently their sapphires were flawed and unworkable.

The Huronian Ice Age ~2 Billion years ago has been linked to oxygenation of our atmosphere by cyanobacteria. Could an asteroid impact have ended it?

Today in we had to answer the question how our view of changed during class. Here’s a super interesting map that shows why I was not really affected by them and they were always “far away” for me.

Nice visualization of data to show what may be the cause of the devastating fires in Australia. It seems to show that we might be dealing with this again next year if effort isn't made to find a solution.

The 7.5 magnitude quake that struck Indonesia today has been followed by continuous ~5.5M aftershocks and a devastating tsunami. I'm heartbroken for the people affected.
