Actively tried to do Focusing on my jaw for an hour, but I just couldn't really get anywhere. No handle I tried on, fit the felt sense; and I couldn't describe the felt sense well at all, no matter how long I tried. Barely any sense of, "Yes, this word is closer." What gives?

Like, my knee hurts right now (because I fell over earlier). I could Focus on that I suppose but there's no real complex felt sense associated with that it just hurts. I'd find Focusing on a tense jaw similar to that.

same here, albeit my skills are probably cruder like, meditating on an old childhood trauma makes me notice how tense my shoulders are, or thinking about how I'm going to die makes me aware of a massive pit in my chest
