I've been noticing recently that a lot of the time when my inclination would be to have more coffee I'm much better served by a hot bath and/or an extended cuddle. I think there's something interesting going on there with lowering a stress response.

to me it feels like a time compromise what you really need is a relaxer, but that takes time so you quickly drink something that helps you make the most of your unrelaxedness

Yeah although I often feel like it's a false compromise. Coffee takes half an hour to kick in anyway and if you're feeling shitty as opposed to just tired it doesn't necessarily make you more productive

Really? Funny I feel it within minutes. I'm anxious by hour 1 though.

I think so? I may be misremembering or wrong but my understanding is that the initial rush is mostly psychosomatic and it takes a while to meaningfully hit your bloodstream

Yeah I'm also super sensitive to it. Perhaps I'm exaggerating with the few mins. Within 15 certainly noticing it.

Also very sensitive to caffeine (even more so now I have very little tolerance) and have the same thing, works very quickly but also fast transition to anxiety

Yep exactly. And then an almighty depressive crash later in the day, even after just one cup.

Yep, sounds similar. Almost never worth the bother for me.

I often forget this, encounter a moment where I need to power through, opt for a coffee, and then very quickly remember why I don't drink it.

Having looked this up now the general consensus seems to be that you're right about when it starts taking effect - you get some effects pretty quick but it *peaks* around the 30-60 minute mark.
