I loved the book, but I've heard a couple of other people say that... can sort of see what they mean but the content was so important to me that I barely noticed the style
I partly noticed the style because I found myself skimming a lot as a result of it. There were a lot of really important and useful ideas in there but also sometimes I found myself going "yes I get it now" and skipping ten pages of enthusiasm and anecdote that followed the point.
I guess I just expect self help to be Like That... and pop science to be Like That... and Americans to be Like That... it didn't seem unusually annoying to me
also, overall I did like the author and appreciated the warmth, even though the 'let's all be massive nerds and talk about nerd stuff!!' preface to anything slightly scientific was irritating
