Yeah I'm not convinced that everyone means the same thing when they say "coercion", my definition is something like "one part influencing the mind in such a way that other parts don't get a fair say".

I guess what you describe would be *somewhat* coercive, since the part-that-didn't-want-to-work was being overruled by the negative self-talk, but not super-coercive if the rest of the mind-system mostly endorsed the self-talk doing what it did.
