Although TBF usually the "don't make this political" people leaned into it first. But it takes two to deescalate

I should clarify that I generally know better than to be either party in this conversation, I'm just frustrated at how much work that can take to avoid.

"everything is political" is technically true- the worst kind of true ironically, trying to make everything political makes it impossible to talk about "politics" in a useful wayhttps://twitter.com/miftah___ra/status/1312891934306758657 …

and the search for how to manipulate people into doing something they don't want to do without triggering their defense mechanisms continues

Kinda but what I'd actually like to be able to do in most of these cases is have an open and honest conversation about what actually does and doesn't work without people assuming that I thereby have an agenda

The latest of which in the UK is Nigel Farage politicising lockdowns, making the reasonable criticism of any specific aspect of lockdown a future impossibility. Is this what prompted this tweet?

I mean there are like fifteen different things that prompted this tweet but yeah some of them are COVID-19 response related

I think that there are two possibly valid classes of “don’t make this political”: 1) Where “political” is standing in for “ideological”, and the discourse strays from discussing actions that parties might agree on to instead discussing abstract ideology or tribal totem-waving.
-
2) Where the thing being made political is traditionally an escape from political thought. Anyone who insists on making my hobby time yet another place I’m forced to worry about the very concerns I’m trying to use it to escape isn’t winning me as an ally.

The core problem with making everything political is that it assumes that a government can actually solve the problem you have. Oftentimes this isn't the case, just look at COVID. The likely result is somewhere between measuring what gets managed and theater.
