I wonder if this is what contributes to the sense that it is snake oil. I am tending towards the idea that coach should be a protected term, or at least that serious coaches should pursue training and accreditation.
I'm not sure that accreditation necessarily prevents the market being flooded with people who are mediocre.

True, but it's something at least. It should remove the bottom x% of people who actively do bad things, or at least give someone to complain to if they do bad things.
