Reading him is a net positive if you're able to cleanly separate the good bits from the bad bits, but he isn't going to do that for you (because he can't), and I'd rather people not take on either than take on both.

What do you think the bad bits are?

He's very confident of his position and he's very big on "principle of charity" as a talking point but he's not actually very good at being charitable to competing worldviews. Most blatant example is that basically every time feminism comes up you need to salt the post liberally.

like he's thinking incessantly possibly too much sometimes occasionally gets heated/defensive ofc but, whomst among us he seems like a certain kind of hyperverbal type who is trying really hard to communicate precisely and eloquently and get his point across...

...exactly how he intends but there is this failure mode that I've seen and experienced with that where people take the volume of words+attempts at precision as signals that the person is trying to...rhetorically badger them?

to be clear I'm not saying he's perfect! but I've run into the thing where you're trying really hard to articulate something and you use a lot of words and people take that kind of overexplaining as a signal they should trust you less

I am exactly this over-explainer too, you’re not alone the more words I say the safer I feel

Yeah. I've historically done the same. I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with this, but a lot of how it manifests in the SSC case gets my back up. As a side note, I came to the conclusion that this was a Fawn reaction (in the cPTSD sense) when I do it.
