I think your use of the term "mediocrity" is very non-standard. Which is not neccessarily bad! But I think it is confusing (at least to me).

Maybe, yeah, but I think it lines up. I roughly mean when... things are basically OK, kinda bad but not in any particularly interesting way, and possess the potential to be better and/or more interesting.
