The PUA wars drove me away. Far too many toxic men arguing for their right to be toxic.
I kinda missed that because I wasn't directly part of the community, but yeah I'm not surprised that things like that were problems - the downside of a lot of LW's norms (which is also their strength as a community of last resort) is they include a lot of objectionable people.
I think there's more to it than that - both LW and PUA attracted analytical but socially-inept young men trying to figure out human interaction from first principles, so there was a lot of overlap; the LW/PUAs wanted to use ideas from PUA in LW discussions.
Tbqh i have a lot of sympathy for what ive seen of puas. especially considering it's always been considered bad, wrong, "sinful" "we're gonna teach these guys what their dads never did" "it's not about just getting the girl, it's about keeping the girl" etc. good shit.
