main reason why I loathe the "male gaze"-framing is that it invariably implies that 1) sexual attraction is incompatible with respect and 2) being attracted to female bodies does women harm + is intrinsically gross and a sign of lacking self-control desiring sex is not violence.

And yeah, almost nobody would explicitly endorse that if asked about it, but they're clearly doing *something* to create that impression.

(I don't really have a problem with the term "male gaze" in the same way that
@Elodes12 does, and I think there are a lot of valid and important issues being pointed to in this space, but there's definitely a lot going on here that isn't part of the explicitly endorsed theory)
