I don't think porn is optimising for giving you a boner. It's optimised for getting you to watch it, which is slightly different and more about effectiveness for fapping to. I suspect slight unreality of it is in many ways quite helpful.

Stray thought: If they were enjoying it you might be more inclined to engage with them as people, which a) Makes the whole thing a bit less pure masturbatory fantasy and b) Is bad for the porn industry's exploitative labour practices because you might actually care about them.
