Although oddly this might result in me being slightly meaner to myself.

uh... that was not the intended side effect
questioning, disciplined, challenging, okay, but not meaner!1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

If it helps, I currently basically never engage in negative self talk. It's not a thing I do. I'm very nice to myself. So "This is how you behave with ultimate power" as a frame made me go "Hmm. Actually, zero might not be the correct number here..."

Heh, the problem of advice: it's only useful to a percentage of population that has the same problem as you do :D "this is how you behave with ultimate power" is only a half of the equation, with the other half: being completely in someone's power (as yet undeveloped take)

Nah it was a useful frame for me, just in a different way than you intended! Don't worry, I'm not about to start beating myself up, but this was an interesting thing to poke at.

...although actually the idea of just scheduling some time to just really lay into myself verbally and emotionally and see how it feels sounds oddly appealing. This is probably a terrible plan.

Yeah, this feels very adjacent, but I don't think it's actually that close to any of the exercises in it? I think she kinda assumes that you're already good at beating yourself up and wants to help you discover that you're into it.

yeah, no, just "the thought of beating myself up seems oddly appealing" seems like exactly what she's been telling people happens, without you having to reframe :)

Maybe but what I mean by "oddly appealing" in this case is really "this sounds like it might reveal something interesting"

It triggers my "This sounds terrible! I bet it will be fascinating." instinct really hard.

I am glad we did not meet when we were younger, because THIS triggers my instinct of coming up with terrible ideas just to see if you will do it

Honestly you should feel free to do that. I'm very good at working with terrible ideas and making them into useful ones. Part of that is that I've got a very well developed sense of what's safe, so I'm not going to do anything actually dangerous.
