How do I get better at Twitter? Just start tweeting more? I mostly just doom scroll now.

Yeah that's fair, but they are hard to find if you don't follow or know anyone. Hence starting with 1) to allow for finding the smaller accounts.
Fair. What I did early on which worked quite well was to just do a random walk through recommended follows and then later unfollow anyone who didn't spark joy on my timeline.

about once or twice I looked for new follows by going through genies' follows, because I'd learned that every time I discovered a cool tiny account, genies was already following them

Some of this is because cool tiny accounts like to follow me and I do follow back.
I've lured a bunch of people into alt twitter so I think I'm often a first follow for people. - Show replies
