I'd also recommend hanging out with small follower accounts! But yeah, mostly seconding this: I think my main tip for getting good at Twitter is to try to be friendly and interesting in the replies of people you like on here, see who engages, and talk to them more.

I'd say practice noticing curiosity, which enables you to both post more & better (you post whatever you find yourself curious about; either questions, open-ended wondering, or something you found out as a result of your curiosity)…

…and it also enables you to reply more & better (you ask people whatever you find yourself genuinely curious about when reading their post, which leads to more interesting questions)

but also just by sheer volume of interaction you insert yourself into the social graph, and then people follow you just because you're such a prominent node in the graph that they feel they it'd be weird *not* to follow you, and then you get more interaction and things get better

also, for better experience: there are very few 10k+ accounts that are worth following, let alone interacting with, I mostly wouldn't bother the most fun accounts to spend time with you'll typically find when they're around a few hundred followers, some might shoot up to 1–2k

there are plenty in the 2–10k range that are nice and cozy too, but they're a little more of a brand and a little less of a person at that point

Yeah. Part of why I started this alt was that I could feel the brand seeping in around the edges on main. I'm still a person on main, but I'm a person with a lot of the rough edges filed off.

I can believe this though. Going to hold out as long as possible, but maybe when I'm as big a deal as you are I'll venture out into alt land.
