How do I get better at Twitter? Just start tweeting more? I mostly just doom scroll now.

Find accounts you like who have like 3k - 8k followers. Hang out in their replies. Get to know them and others who congregate around their camp fire. Explore your own balance of building relationships, broadcasting valuable stuff and shitposting.
I'd also recommend hanging out with small follower accounts! But yeah, mostly seconding this: I think my main tip for getting good at Twitter is to try to be friendly and interesting in the replies of people you like on here, see who engages, and talk to them more.

Yeah that's fair, but they are hard to find if you don't follow or know anyone. Hence starting with 1) to allow for finding the smaller accounts.

Fair. What I did early on which worked quite well was to just do a random walk through recommended follows and then later unfollow anyone who didn't spark joy on my timeline.

I'd say practice noticing curiosity, which enables you to both post more & better (you post whatever you find yourself curious about; either questions, open-ended wondering, or something you found out as a result of your curiosity)…

…and it also enables you to reply more & better (you ask people whatever you find yourself genuinely curious about when reading their post, which leads to more interesting questions)
