I mean honestly the take is pretty bad at any age point - I can't think of a single point in my life to date where I wouldn't be envious of my life as it is now - but the "midlife starts at 30" is just the icing on a beautiful young-people-having-terrible-opinions cake.
The pandemic has actually been great for that for some parents, because socialising over Zoom from home is now an option. But also I'd kinda frame a lot of this as "As they get older, people narrow the set of others they care about seeming interesting to"

that's not the only thing that i was trying to point at (seeming interesting.) it's more that... the expected rewards on certain actions change as you age because of the overall changes in your environment/age cohort/relationships.

Yeah, that's fair. But I think a lot of those parents probably still have some very interesting things going on in their lives, it's just happening with a fairly small and well-established group. It's true that there are resource constraints though.
