Yeah, I feel like this is very much a thing that men are "supposed" to sort of laugh off.

Yeah, my guess is both that the same behavior is much less harmful to men in general and also that men feel less like they can speak up when it does bother them.

Yes, I'd agree with this, although I think it's not so much that the behaviour is intrinsically less harmful with men as that most of the actual harm of this behaviour comes from implied threat, which is both actually less and also felt less strongly with men.

Huh, I get the strong impression from my male friends that being touched or kissed or just yelled at (in a nonsexual way) is just in general less of an event, meant less to them, etc.

I think the point here is that that's how we're supposed to act. show no weakness, because that typically more mockery and abusehttps://twitter.com/visakanv/status/1042725956840972288 …

Yeah, I hear that, and believe that's doing a lot of work and have a lot of sympathy for men who get stuck in this bind (thank god for Terry Crews!) Is your (plural) take that men aren't on average less emotionally sensitive than women?

Hard to say. I think there's a really strong bias towards men pretending they are more emotionally robust than they are, and also men have less training in how to be self-aware about their feelings.

But my point is that I think a lot of the "badness" is the emotional felt sense of P(awful) * cost(awful), and this is lower for men, and the actual concrete consequences of the event are probably not really much better or worse in most cases?

But TBH I'm a guy who constantly gets "Genie, you're *such* a woman" reactions RE emotional processing so my model of what it's like to be a typical guy is totally off.

I would 100% guess that you're on the high end of men! And I only and love a lot of emotionally sensitive men. And then I see viral tweets that are like "women feel more than one thing at a time??"

Honestly I'm on the high end for women. The women in my life who I am closest to are on the high end for emotional processing and verbal intelligence and have learned important things about talking about feelings from me.
