Let me rephrase what I'm hearing here: "I wonder if people who encourage their partner to find emotional support from multiple sources (rather than only partner) would also encourage them to find sexual release from multiple sources (rather than only partner)."

Actually no, but I'm also in favour of both of those things. My actual point is more like "If the thing that is core to a healthy relationship is transactional in this way, the problem isn't that you should have been paid for it".

Partnered emotional support doesn't look much like therapy. If it does that's a very bad sign. But also most of what people seem to complain about sure doesn't sound like therapy to me, and the comparison does both their relationships and therapists a disservice.
