Partnered emotional support doesn't look much like therapy. If it does that's a very bad sign. But also most of what people seem to complain about sure doesn't sound like therapy to me, and the comparison does both their relationships and therapists a disservice.

Side/footnote: in the current society it's inadmissible that one doesn't have enough internal resources - or attachment to the other person - to bear some cost. Applicable to disabled children, the elderly, and, yes, partners with extra psychological support/education needs.
