Pathologizing all forward thinking action as an anxiety coping mechanism is a great way to shame yourself and maximize anxiety. Conclusion: anxiety has become sentient and wants to live forever

Why should something being an anxiety coping mechanism produce shame?

Because it's an admission that I (still) struggle with anxiety despite years of learning to improve it. Makes me feel like I haven't tried hard enough to actually solve it

What if anxiety is Good Actually, and rather than solving it the way to deal with it is to identify what it is telling you about the world and deal with that appropriately? i.e. by developing anxiety coping mechanisms.

Hmm, yes! In two senses: - This thing is potentially threatening to my body/life in some way and should be thought through - This thing requires a summoning of energy and anxiety is a shortcut to getting those glands to activate and give me the happy speed

Hmm I tend to think of anxiety as awareness of risk in a more general sense - that there is uncertainty and some of the outcomes that could happen are bad.

I'm not sure if this is 100% right but it's often a useful lens. Definitely doesn't need to involve major harm to create anxiety
