Realizing the other day that I've never experienced "rage" made me wonder whether I've even been "angry"....having a hard time telling. Can't think of any examples. Closest candidates seem more like "frustrated" or "annoyed"

Hmm. Frustrated and annoyed aren't actually that close to anger and rage I think. I feel like roughly anger is a desire to fight (possibly specifically to defend yourself?) and rage is more specifically a desire to punish.

Like there's a very specific felt distinction between "I will fight you!" (anger) and "I will fight you, and I want it to hurt you!" (rage) for me.

In some sense it is just being more angry, but I think there are important qualitative changes that occur above and beyond that.
