What if impostor syndrome is only there because if you believed you were good at something you might try doing that and maybe make a mistake & then someone would call you out on that, which would be conflict, which is what you really want to avoid, so: better to think you're dumb

I'm sortof on the fence about the original theory - it doesn't seem like a stretch so much as incomplete to me - but I'd be really surprised if there weren't significant links between conflict aversion and impostor syndrome.

this seems correct, the first tweet involved the notion that you're trying to avoid attempting something that you might be judged for but that's not what impostor syndrome is about, it's about the fear of being judged for already being a fake
