So emotional reactions are things that you've learned from your environment, and were often adaptive strategies that served a purpose at the time, right? And one of the reasons to relearn them is that they were learned in childhood, and they may not work well as an adult.
Yeah it kinda worked in this case. It was really nice for exposing that no actually this person just has terrible opinions and wasn't worth my time.

I started off pissed off and triggered, and I finished mildly contemptuous and somewhat less triggered, which is on balance a win but I don't think can be considered the strategy working as intended.
