How do you deal with days where you're just feeling really sad and anxious for apparently no good reason? I'm planning to medicate with hugs but I'd like better tools for debugging this.

It seems like a lot of this was "just" muscle tension and attacking the tension with a foam roller seems to have helped. Not solved it, but helped.

I took everyone's advice and went for a walk but it was... longer than I intended. Now I am too exhausted to be anxious so I guess that works.

"Put words to what's scary, that makes it easier to fight" is a common go to in my verbal toolkit, and isn't too far off from that (though yours is a bit sillier). -
Yeah if I could identify the actual source of anxiety this would be a good plan, I'm just not sure there is one.

Actually, I think the lack of *release* is a big thing in generalised anxiety. So achieving release wrt some other anxiety would probably help. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
