This feels like insight. ...currently trying to feel what it's like to be normed. Is it as simple as being pressured to be normal, by normal people?

As long as it crushes you a little inside, yeah I think so

Sorry, I have a habit of half-joking. I think that was somehow both true and totally exaggerated.

Definitely, yes. That makes a lot of sense really

Being normed is the process of learning to internalise the judgement of others into an emotional response you can generate on your own. This isn't necessarily bad, but a lot of norms really suck

Is it the same process for babies? Or does this only count for those who are grown, and then face the experience of being normed?

It's the same process for babies, though I think the experience of being normed by people with power over you is qualitatively quite different from that of being normed by peers.

Well maybe not the same process but the same mechanism. Emotional reactions and judgements learned from others

I do want to emphasise that this isn't bad. Normation is how we learn ethical behaviour, form communities, learn good taste, etc. But normies are those who most actively norm others to the broader culture, and broader cultural norms may fit some people very badly.

This is all slightly nonstandard usage that comes of mixing obscure 20th century philosophy of education with 4chan-derived internet shitposting nomenclature, but I think it's a good way of looking at it.
