      Being normed is the process of learning to internalise the judgement of others into an emotional response you can generate on your own. This isn't necessarily bad, but a lot of norms really suck

          Is it the same process for babies? Or does this only count for those who are grown, and then face the experience of being normed?

          It's the same process for babies, though I think the experience of being normed by people with power over you is qualitatively quite different from that of being normed by peers.
