There's a particularly unpleasant experience that it seems like most people who are (cis?) male feminist nerds have at least some of, which is that they've internalised the idea that their being attracted to women is in some sense morally bad.

Identifying as a male Good Person seems to make you extra susceptible to this as feminism says men are problematic and now you are a sinner. It’s a naïve reading of feminism but people do struggle.

I don't think it's necessarily a naive reading. There are plenty of feminisms that don't endorse this view, but many feminisms and individual feminists do - either explicitly or implicitly.
