I'm generally of the opinion that honesty and mutual cooperation with people are the path to a better future for everyone, but it must be noted that for this purpose neither your boss nor your landlord counts as a person.

I've lived here for 6 years in two different units and landlord has yet to ruthlessly exploit me Almost like... it's good business to have happy longterm tenants?

In the London property market it's mostly not though. Like, I'm glad you've had a good experience, but you've basically found a unicorn, and I stand by my advice. I could have said the same about my last landlord, but he still is planning to convert that flat into smaller ones.

Aren't almost all bosses managers? (Few people report to the actual business owner)

It depends a lot on context and business structure. For me the person most likely to be labelled the boss has historically been the CEO. Sometimes it's the department head. Sometimes it's the manager.
