Everyone is wrong about mansplaining and it's very annoying. Mansplaining is a failure to negotiate a common conversation protocol, resulting in an annoying mismatch. This can be due to sexism but it isn't necessarily so.

Indeed, and as much as I hate them, too, I recognize I'm definitely not immune to sizing people up. When I see the term "mansplaining" used in a way I find off-putting, it's usually because I suspect it's been used to play the same social status game by a different set of rules.

I do this as well, and to me it's a way to quickly synchronize with another person, accelerate finding your common ground and the edges of your overlap
