Everyone is wrong about mansplaining and it's very annoying. Mansplaining is a failure to negotiate a common conversation protocol, resulting in an annoying mismatch. This can be due to sexism but it isn't necessarily so.

Ah, good point. I've met a lot of working musicians that, when they meet another musician, immediately engage in "name drop" mode. Their brain seems to spontaneously conjure names of obscure musicians they know of, and then works backwards to work them in to sentences.

Now, on some level, this does strike me as some kind of peacock plumage thing. But at the same time, they tend to get an accurate read on 1. the genres the other musician is interested in, and 2. their likely skill level, etc. The speed of it is actually quite impressive.
