Everyone is wrong about mansplaining and it's very annoying. Mansplaining is a failure to negotiate a common conversation protocol, resulting in an annoying mismatch. This can be due to sexism but it isn't necessarily so.

Right, that was one of the prompts for my point: I don't think this is right. I think mansplaining is what happens when those norms break down for some reason, usually because the other party doesn't know how to or isn't being allowed to engage with them.
