I feel like part of the problem is that ideally the therapist should help you distinguish which bits are normative because they're good ideas and which bits are normative because people hate weirdos, but therapists have reliably internalised too much normie bullshit to do that.

Classic example I've run into (not personally, but second hand multiple times) is therapists who treat poly as a sign that someone has attachment issues or whatever.
