It is after all an environment well suited to high verbal intelligence, the only component of IQ on which women consistently outperform men on average. (OK, I'm just being a jerk at this point, I don't actually think this is really the explanation)
Speculatively: masculinity has always been kinda dysfunctional but in ways that you could sortof paper over in the 20th century, but when the internet and future shock hit, having a prior body of feminist activism and literature helped women deal with it and adapt better.

Yes that's maybe true. It's "adapting better" in the sense of winning "the war of the sexes" (ugh) but this is very much a game where the only winning move is not to play.
