It’s funny that smart people often are smart bc trauma leads to lots of explicit reasoning and that society worships explicit reason. So you get actually quite capable people who are bad at it and self conscious because of it and incapable people who excel at it. Jocks/nerds
I think it's probably true that trauma leads to intellectualising for some people, but I'm not sure how you would easily separate evidence for this from the fact that growing up smarter than your peers is traumatic.

Have you seen any surveys on this? My smart pals who had selective education seem to have been happier than those who didn't, but every big survey I can find is just about grades (positive, as you'd expect) and a little bit on income (mixed!)
