I think the scariest of both worlds is that I used to remember my childhood in great detail but now I have gaps! There are things I used to know that I just can't access anymore. Gone forever
I mean I suppose this must be somewhat what it was like for me too - I presumably didn't just wake up one day at 18 and not remember anything from the prior 18 years - but if so I uh don't remember what it was like.
