Not at all sure how, but it seems like we (society as abstract) should be encouraging finding synthesis in constructing new views more often.
Not always, I don't miss our outright misogynistic days. But synthesis is still an immensely valuable idea. -
(Furthermore, it isn't as if we gained nothing from our time under more vitriolic belief systems, we learned a number of ways to expose the flaws in a lot of simple and semi-mantric arguments, and learnt to hold trust and skepticism in both hands when given new knowledge.) - Show replies

exactly! i have given up lots of goals too but they were all because the "shit it's complicated" realization included some form of understanding that certain goals /require/ bad things (state health care for example)
