"How we talk about poly people" thread reminds me that I often notice and occasionally point out that many people talk about furries in almost *exactly* the way that people they hate talk about queer people and somehow experience no cognitive dissonance about this.

We often behave more like GPT-style language models than consistent minds. I recently overheard someone express support for furries in a very condescending tone, and I suspect the tone was more due to fitting into a rhetorical context than actual condescension or dislike.
Agreed, but it can be useful to point out inconsistencies in order to get people to update.

Some of us refrain from things because we realize they make us inconsistent; others do not. But understanding how contexts can produce hate(ish) behaviour is also useful since one can try to modify contexts to reduce it.
